The ongoing restrictions and cancellations have many of us feeling like summer has been cancelled. The kids are bored, and we are all feeling a little more than stressed at this point. Summer as we know it has indeed been altered, but with a little creativity you can make this summer fun and relaxing still. Check out the ideas below to inspire your creativity and make this summer still fun-filled!
The Drive-In
If you are lucky enough to still have a running Drive-in theater near you, now is the perfect time to pay them a visit. Pack an picnic meal, some snacks and head out to see a movie under the stars. No theater near you? Then hang up a sheet and buy or borrow a projector and make your own backyard theater under the stars!
Fun Food Bars
Many of us associate food with some of our favorite memories. Whether it is snacks from a favorite theme park, or smores, certain foods mean summer time to us. Even though we cannot visit some of those favorite places right now, we can re-visit those memories by creating a themed food bar, whether is a buffet of theme park treat copycats, or a full on smores bar adults and kids alike will have fun revisiting their favorite summer time treats.
Get Wet
Pools and other public swimming areas are starting to open in some locations, but if this is not the case in your area or you simply do not feel safe you can still have fun in the water at home. If you have tried to buy a pool recently you have probably noticed there is a shortage, but with a little creativity you do not need a traditional pool. With some creativity you can build a obstacle course with sprinklers, water slides and other water play toys that will keep both kids and adults busy for hours. Not feeling up to building a whole course? An old fashioned water fight with sponges, water balloons and squirt guns is a fun way to get wet and cool off!
Camping
Missing your normal summer vacation? Camping can be a fun way to get away while maintaining social distancing. Many campgrounds are starting to reopen at limited capacity, but of you are worried many state parks have the option of "back pack" camping. This options gives you better control of your distance, you can purchase a permit and camp anywhere within an approved area, just keep in mind with this style you will most likely have to walk a ways with your gear from the parking areas to get to your chosen site.
Off-Grid Trip
Not a fan of camping but still want to get away? Well what I like to call an "Off-Grid" trip may be just the thing. Search for a vacation rental in a location that is more isolated, be it a lake, the mountains or a smaller and less touristy beach town. Avoid air-travel and tourist attractions, simply enjoy a new location and the time away!
