Power Pumping

Your milk supply can naturally vary and depending on what is going on in your life, baby hitting a growth spurt, new schedule, return of menses, any of these can cause your pumping output can take a dip. First of all to put things in perspective most women will produce 1/2 - 2 ounces of milk total from both breasts per pumping session, if you are regularly getting more than this you may have an oversupply. It is very normal for it to take several pumping sessions to get enough milk for one feeding. The good news is there is a trick that you can use to help quickly boost your pumping output!

A weekend of "Power Pumping" may be just what you need to get things back where they need to be! The process is very simple and may be just the thing to increase your supply, just remember not to use this tactic if you are less than 6 weeks postpartum.

Some other things you may want to take into consideration when you see a dip in supply are:

Birth Control

Diet Changes for Mom (are you eating enough?)

Diet Changes for Baby (Started table foods?)

Mom Drinking enough

Lack of Sleep (try safe co-sleeping to increase your sleep amount)

Stress

Mom is sick

While "Power Pumping" may help, if you are experiencing any of the issues above you will need to address them to continue to maintain your supply.
