I wanted to share my experience with you while trying Imperfect Foods produce delivery service for the first time. I stepped out of my comfort zone and made a video during my first box opening which you can view below.
As you can see, my introverted self is much more comfortable behind the keyboard than the camera but I wanted to share my authentic experience of receiving this item for the first time. Let't get into some of the Pros and Cons that I saw of this service.
Pros
Low Price-I paid $37 shipped for my box, but I argumentatively could have just as well shopping myself with that budget so you are paying a bit more for convenience.
Rural Delivery-Most of these boxes will not deliver to smaller towns.
Choice-I have belonged to CSA's before where you just took whatever you got, so I liked having the ability to pick my items and buy both organic and conventional.
Management-It is easy to manage your account and skip the weeks that you do not want.
Cons
Delivery Method-My box came via FedEx, it was a day late (they did refund my shipping fee without me asking) and by the time it arrived my ice pack was completely melted, which was OK for produce but would have been a disaster if I had added any meat products to my order.
Packaging-The items were just loose in a large box, and while I am all for reduced packaging, some of the more sensitive items like tomatoes and cucumbers did not journey well. I have contacted customer service and I am waiting on the response.
Size-It was really hard to judge how much of an item you were going to get via the website, for example I ordered zucchini and judging from the image I thought I would get 2-3 and I received 1 large zucchini. Some items you order by the number of items and some by weight.
The Bottom Line
The service has the potential to be great, but there are a few small kinks to workout. I am going to give it a few more times and see if I fall in love with it like I had hoped I would.
